E1 to VoIP
Product: VoIP Media Gateway (Or called as Trunking Gateway too)
An interface between Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Public switched telephone network (PSTN).
It is a device whereby the VoIP line and PSTN line are connected so that an end user can use PSTN phones to make a call over VoIP.
Background:
Mass-market VoIP services started in 2004, and has been rapidly grew for recent years.
It is becoming increasingly common for telecommunications providers to use VoIP telephony over dedicated and public IP networks to connect switching centers and to interconnect with other telephony network providers.
Because of the bandwidth efficiency and low costs that VoIP technology can provide, businesses are migrating from traditional copper-wire telephone systems to VoIP systems to reduce their monthly phone costs.
And vice versa, many SIP providers who provide VoIP services, to match with customers’ requirements, should connect their VoIP networks to customers’ traditional PSTN network.
How to connect VoIP?
This can be implemented in several ways:
1. VoIP Media Gateway from E1 to SIP, connects PSTN and VoIP by conversion between E1 and SIP.
2. Analog Trunk Gateway from FXO to SIP, connects PSTN and VoIP by conversion between FXO trunk and SIP.
3. Wireless Gateway from GSM / CDMA / WCDMA to SIP, connects PSTN and VoIP by conversion between GSM / CDMA / WCDMA and SIP.
This page will describe way No 1 only.
Illustrate the solutions of E1 to SIP
In PSTN or traditional TDM switch network, provides E1 interface only.
Vice versa, in VoIP network, provides SIP only.
Signaling protocol are different in both side, so connection for both side will be failed.
For example:
Under such a situation, Media Gateway / Trunking Gateway comes which make connection between them.
By using VoIP Media Gateway / Trunking Gateway, connection between PSTN / PBX System and VoIP network is established. After connection is established, for PSTN or for PBX System users, both of them will get benefit from VoIP technology; for SIP provider, they will easily sell their services and call route to traditional PSTN / PBX users.
